The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ
On August 6 the Church keeps the day Christ took Peter, James and John up a mountain and was changed before them, his face and clothing shining, Moses and Elijah beside him and a voice from the cloud naming him Son. The East has kept the feast far longer than the West, which received it late and by a single papal act in 1457.
