Commontide
Proper 28
Stir up, O Lord, the wills of your faithful people, that bringing forth in abundance the fruit of good works, they may be abundantly rewarded when our Savior Jesus Christ comes to restore all things; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A prayer prayed on the Sunday before Advent across more than a thousand years of Western Christianity. Its Latin original asks God to rouse the faithful to bear good works, promising that divine mercy meets human effort in due proportion. The ACNA version adds an explicit nod to Christ's return, giving the old prayer a sharper Advent edge.
